Codes - P0236 - Turbo Sensor and P0237 - Turbo Circuit "A' Low V70-XC70

My check engine light came on and when the codes were pulled from the computer they showed P0236 - Turbo Sensor and P0237 - Turbo Circuit "A" Low. Someone told me that I need to "kick the turbo in the butt" because I am not driving the car hard enough. Any other ideas or suggestions as to what could cause these codes? Do the sensors go bad? The car is a 2002 with 64000 miles on it and is used for short commutes, no real highway driving. Thanks in advance.

Klaus - We went to the dealer to get a boost sensor and the guy at the parts counter showed us a picture of the sensor where the tube goes into the intercooler. The vehicle has no such sensor in that location, there is however a sensor which the dealer indicated is a map sensor that looks like a picture of the boost sensor.

Have heard people refer to three hoses on the boost sensor but have not been able to find a sensor with that description. Where would it be located? Also, the picture we have of the boost sensor is identical to what the dealer says is the map sensor and is in the same location as the map sensor described by the dealer. Very confusing! Thanks in advance.

MAP, manifold absolute pressure, sensor is that. It senses the pressure inside the manifold so that you don't overboost.
Clean the connector, plug it back in and see if that helps.

FCPGroton has:

A little cheaper than the dealer. Your car will still run, just not boost.

I agree that your car needs to stretch its legs once in a while. It is a car intended to go fast and the slow, short runs are worse than any other mistreatment you can inflict on the engine. The automotive "experts" refer to this as extreme conditions, meaning you need to change the oil more often and all of the other fluids. Do not base anything on mileage, the odometer, but schedule your maintenance on the calendar. Every 2 years, flush the tranny fluid, the antifreeze, and the brake lines. Change the oil every 6 months.

I nHave never heard of a sensor going out on a turbo. The vacuum lines do occasionally come loose and need to be checked.
