'95 850glt alarm sys problem (factory alarm w/car) 850 1995

My 95 859GLT has 237,000 of my miles. The alarm system has become quirky recently.
I can not turn the alarm off by using the key in the door. I can not reprogram one of my original key fobs. I have changed the battery and verified though my dealer that the lock and unlock both work with the Volvo tester. I work in an inner city location and what the alarm to operational and not just lock the car.
I don't know if its the master unit or the relay. Looking for any ideas or help to make the unit fully working again.

Thanks
Bob

You can turn the alarm off with the key by unlocking it twice when you unlock the door. Same with turning it back on, lock twice.

You need to check the hood latch for positioning, sounds like it isn't close enough to the sensor anymore. The sensor is on the driver's side.

All doors, trunk, and hood need to be latched securly before the alarm system can be used to program remotes.

Hi Klaus,
I have tried the key in the door and that does not arm or disarm. I found out the hard way when the battery in one of the remotes failed in cold weather. Had to have another brought to my location by my wife. So the door can be opened with the key, but the key in the door does not disarm the alarm. I was ready to disconnect the battery and get the system to reset. I currently can not reprogram the remote which had the battery die even though the local Volvo dealer tested the remote and it does send a signal to lock and unlock.

Replacing a battery in a remote does not require reprogramming. It will still send the same signal. Each remote has a unique signal, which is why you need to reprogram all of your remotes when you add a new one. Oh, the remote doesn't get programmed, the transceiver is told to accept the code from the remote.

My 1995s tranceiver died, so the remotes would no longer work. I turned the alarm on and off via the key. Turn the key to the left twice to disable and to the right twice to enable - which ever way was unlock and lock.

The Key does not disarm the alarm. The red light flashes even with the use of the key to disarm by turning it twice. I have also tried to reset the the system by turning it off and on 5 and 6 times but that does not recycle the system either.
I think the transceiver is going bad! I don't know where it is located or how long to replace it. Then do I use a new or get one from a salvage yard!! I have one working remote and one which is also the factory original which does not work. Had the dealer check the remote and it does transmit the lock and unlock. My transceiver just does not recognize it and does not let enter the program mode to reprogram the remote

The transceiver is mounted on the passenger fender up by the glove box. After removing the glove box, you should be able to see the 4" square black box with the green connector. Not all 1995s have the same transceiver number and if you get a replacement it will have to match the old one.

Both of your remotes no longer work? Turning the key from pos0 to posII 5 times, and leaving it on the 5th time, should result in the red led turning on. Make sure all of the doors, trunk and hood are closed properly before doing this. If you get a steady light, then push one of the remotes buttons. If the light flashes rapidly, then that remote will now work. Then when the light is steady again, push a button on the second remote. When the light turns steady again turn the key off.

If the red led does not turn on, it could be a relay problem. There are 2 relays under the driver's dash.

One remote works and one does not. I have tried the cycle of 0-II and can not engage the programing to renew the now working remote. I guess I will try the relays and the next to attack. I have seen one on FCP are they both the same? What are your thoughts of using relays from a salvage yard? Everything works in this 95-850 with 237k except the alarm. I will also check the hood to see it the contact does not meet. The alarm does work and will lock up the system if I open via the door with the key. It leaves the dash light flashing. Two choices to repair or to use the key and not alarm the car. I am concerned about having only one working remote.

Just emailed you a copy of the alarm system.

Thanks, I was out of town for the week. I will look it over. Perhaps the hood contact is bad which does not let me enter the program mode. I will get a few of the relays from my favorite salvage yard and also try those.

Also check your rear hatch door operation if you have a wagon. I found mine to be broken such that it would not actually lock with the remote--the solenoid would give a healthy click, but the latch wouldn't lock so I could still open the hatch with the thumb toggle. That also prevented the alarm system from arming. I replaced the entire latch assembly with a pick'n'pull one and got my alarm system back in operation. As Klaus said--until everything is actually locked, the system won't be satisfied.
