1996 855R fuel pump 850

Hi Folks!
I'm replacing the fuel pump in the wagon and between the old stock one and the new one that I purchased from fcp groton, there are some differences.
The part numbers are the same and my dealer here in Calgary said that all the pumps are the same no matter what trim the 850 is.
-The old pump has a black coiled wire inside the housing with a rubber isolator and the new one does not.
-The new pump has a pigtail connection on the quick disconnect and the old one does not.
With the new pump will I still have my trip computer functions regarding fuel to zero and such? I'd hate to put the new pump in, not have it work and not be able to return it since it's been in fuel.

Thanks for any help,
Klaus

You should be safe. Here is a pic from IPD showing the pump. The new pumps are better than the original.
The new design requires the wires to be cut and installed into the connector. You might want to get a nice piece of fuel line to replace the old one if it looks like it is cracked or stressed.

The "pump" has nothing to do with miles to empty, that is a computerized function of current mpg and the level of fuel in the tank.

I am glad you are in a heated garage, it is probably a bit nippy out there :)

      Hi Klaus!
Thanks for the reply, it's really appreciated.
The ipd picture is the exact pump I have so I'll just have to put it in and try it.
Do you know what the single pigtail wire with the connector is used for that is coming off of the main gray connector?

The heated garage is so handy, it was part of my "wish-list" when I was house hunting, I was really tired of coordinating repairs with mother nature.
      Thanks again Klaus

I don't understand your question regarding the pigtail wire. The fuel pump has 2 wires, pos and neg. Are you refering to the sending unit?

          Hi Klaus,
No it's strange. When you look at the ipd picture, there is the quick disconnect that powers the pump but also a single wire with a white connector.

Just a side note that if anyone is having fuel pump issues to actually look inside the tank. I found a whole clump of stringy plastic that I can only assume came from the manufacturing process floating around the pump intake.
It seems that under wot the mess would block the intake and cause my car to stumble at full boost, but with it removed I don't have any problems.
          Klaus

That plastic gunk is probably the cause of the pump going bad.

Unfortunately, I can't look at my 850T any more. I think the person that bought it moved to Portland.
