running very rich fuel mixture V70-XC70 2000

Any advice as to why my 2000 XC started running rough.
It appears that after I replaced the engine thermostat that it started running as if it was flooding.
The XC has 225,000 kms on it.
My dauther drives it so I really didn't see how it ran before, other than she mentioned it ran fine.
However the engine light has been on for sometime now, as she works in a northern town with now Volvo service.
I also washed the car in very cold weather and drove it home to a heated garrage, not sure if that may of caused something to fail.
Any heads up would be appreciated.
EBH

OOPS Klause, I spoke to soon the engine light just came back on.
I'll see if I can get the code read again.
We thought we had them all covered, but guess not.

      Hi Klaus.
No antifreeze got on the alternator.
There was just a dap that may of got on the temp sensor because of it location.
I ofcourse did drain the system prior to removing the thermostat.
I believe I have a deeper problem somewhere.
This car has been a hugh problem with the engine light issue.
Maybe it is time for replacement.
      Thanks again!
      Happy New Year!!

Antifreeze is very persistant and conducts electricity. A simple flush of water will not get it all off. I hope you didn't get any into the alternator.

    Hi Klaus
Well I have my XC running like new again.
I took it to a small shop that my friends own.
They put the scanner on it and change both sensors.
Which where really bad. (beyond cleaning I'd say)
    Thanks for the help again!

Interesting. Does the temp gauge on the dash read lower than before? Does the car take a while to get cabin heat? Have you got the codes read? Did you slop antifreeze over the connector for the engine coolant temp sensor? Did you put the thermostat in Up side down? Did you try squeezing the top coolant hose to get any air bubbles out? Did you use an OEM thermostat?

    All possible problems.

      Klaus Thanks for the info.!
The temp is running normal now, it was only about 1/4 up on the gauge and now it is half way up with the new thermostat and the heat is wonderful again.
I put the new thermostat same as the old one. That part is correct
Yes, there may of been some coolant spilled on the temp sensor, I did blow it of with air and it appears dry now.
No, I have not had the code read.
I looked at all possible hose connection leaks and electric connection.
I don't beleive that there is a airlock in the coolant as I top it of after running it for a while and it took the same amount of coolant as I drained.
      Thanks again.
