No power to climate control (sporadic) 850 1994

My ECC sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. (Not working means: no fan, no LEDs, no warm air!). I get no flashing LED code when it is working.

Will the ECC stop working like this when any of the interior sensor fans seize up or other trouble? Or, might it be a relay going bad?

Any clues?

When you start your car, do the AC and recirc lights flash about 20 times? Have you checked for any codes in box B-1?

The normal fault would be the small fans behind the front grab handles getting caught by dust bunnies.

The ECC does Not flash it's LEDs, at any time. Weird?

I can't pull a code, because when I insert the fly wire into B-1 the LED is lit solid. Makes me think there is presently a short in that system. But even as that is happening (the ignition switched to On, of course), the ECC can still operate (fan, heat, LEDs). It just stops occasionally while driving and then the next time I start it, it may or may not be working.

My feeling is that the heater fan resistor is headed on the way out, but can't confirm.

The next time the fan turns off while driving, turn the fan speed to max. If that works then you want to verify that the fuse is in good condition. If you have installed a cabin filter, verify that it is reasonably clean. If not, make sure nothing is in the intake area that is obstructing the fan - twigs, leaves, etc.

Make sure the car doors are closed when checking any codes and turn the blower speed to zero when checking B-1.
