CEL back on after replacing o2 sensor S70 1999

I've been using this page for years but decided to join since I really need some specific help...

CEL was on. Code was P1035 (o2 sensor, after cat converter). Replaced it with Bosch universal rear o2 sensor. Cleared code drives fine but CEL back on w/same code. Here's the snag, I can clear the code and first start after clearing there is no CEL, second start and CEL comes on.

Here's the details of the scan;

Fuel Sys 1 - OL
Fuel Sys 2 - CL-fault
Calc. Load(%) - 30.98
ETC (Farenheit) 140 degrees
STFT B1(%) - 0.00
LTFT B1 (%) - 6.25
MAP (in Hg) - 11.52
Eng RPM - 824
Veh speed - 0

Anyone got ideas? Klaus?

    Recheck your Pnnnn code. A P0135 is for the front O2 sensor, not the rear. The front sensor is on the down pipe and the rear sensor is at the back of the CAT. Use your scan tool on the front O2 sensor and see if it is fluctuating nicely.

    Usually, the O2 sensor messages are a result of running too rich. A vacuum leak will cause this. What is your gas mileage, anything below 16mpg is a suspected air leak or the front O2 sensor.

    Remember, the rear O2 sensor is only checking the efficiency of the CAT and doesn't fluctuate much. Clearing the code on an efficient engine will delay the CEL for up to a week.

      Thanks for weighing in Klaus. Hope you read all my posts, if not yes I had a vacuum issue. Still showing P0135. I cleared it before I took a long trip 2 days ago, it was all hwy, and got 26mpg. Got ready to leave and CEL came back on.

      Rechecked and I'm still getting the closed loop error sending the CEL light on the second start. Any suggestions on how do I get the darn thing to clear since all indications are that it's running well????

        P0135 = O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

        If I read that correctly, it is for the front O2 sensor, not the rear.

    More info;

    When I pulled the old o2 sensor (Volvo/Denso) I saw little pieces of ceramic/porcelain in the tip. Could cat be breaking down, plugging passage so that 600 degree temp is not read in time? Klaus I know you've said; bad cat = no go, but performace is good. Smell is off a bit, but no strong sulphur.

    Could I just be trying to clear the code to soon?

    Hola Joe dirt,
    Do you still have the original O2 sensor. Tomorrow, I'll post a brief procedure for cleaning O2 sensors.

        The village idiot brings merriment to others!

        I found that the PCV line was not actually connected but instead the hardened line was shoved in along side the other line, all neatly obscured by the foam insulation so it "looked connected" (yep I must have done that). So the normal (not so lean) exhaust smell is back. Removed platinum plugs, checked vaccum lines, pulled O2 and re-worked the funky bosch connection to the OEM connector. CEL still comes on after one trip from being cleared with P0135. Losing confidence; is rear o2 sensor actually the left most sensor (toward driver side)in the pipe as well as the left socket?
