bubbles on engine oil dipstick V70-XC70

Hey all,

New here, I have a question. My wifes Volvo V70 T5 has bubbles on the dipstick. Not white foam like you'd get with coolant contamination, just bubbles. I hadn't noticed it before. Not sure when it started. Just recently had the timing belt replaced. Runs fine, no leaks, not low on any fluids.
Anyone else experience this with their turbo motor? Not running synthetic, just regular Castrol GTX 10-30 I think. Changed every 3000 mi with a new filter.

Thanks,

algon

Are you sure its not dispersed water droplets from condensation? .... V70-XC70

Bubbles (i.e., air) to one person might be something else to another. No offense, but is it at all possible that it's water droplets?

In this cold weather, if your wife isn't driving the car hard, fast and far enough, condensation might not be boiling out of the oil and coalescing in the oil.

Verify that the oil level is not over the full mark. If it is OK, then it might be the oil pickup O rings at the bottom of the sump/pan need to be replaced soon.

Are you using an OEM/Mann oil filter? Why are you not using synthetic and changing the oil every 5K miles?

Thanks for the response Klaus,

Oil level is at the 7/8 level on the stick. Don't think it's a windage issue, oil will appear foamy enven after a few minuets running from morning start up. Use either Volvo or Mann filters.
I hope it isn't the oil pick up drawing in air, but it does sound like a likely culprit doesn't it?
Thanks for the response. Happy Holidays!

Hi,

Just logged in to check the Brickboard as my 1998 V70 is doing the exact same thing. Uncanny...

I just had the oil cooler hoses replaced... could that be the culprit in my case?

Can I drive the car -- will call the dealer tomorrow (Monday) as I just had the job done last week.

Take care
