Excessive oil consumption 850

1993 850 GLT

I've been running Rotella T since June. I've done ONE oil change.
I haven't HAD to make any other oil changes cuz I am frequently pouring 2qts every month or so.
No leaks under car, slight drip around drain plug.
No sooty deposits around tailpipe, nothing i can write my name in with my finger.
Could the Flame Trap be spoon-feeding the intake with oil?

I've yet to make true internal inspections, this vehicle is used A LOT.
Just looking for other clues and points to consider.

My 1993 GLT uses approximately a half quart of oil every 4 thousand miles. Done it since new and has never varied in fifteen years. No smoke or leaks. Low oil light comes on at half qt. down if I park on an incline. It's normal.

Are you waiting a good ten+ minutes to check the level. It takes a while to drain back to the sump. If you over-fill it can cause excessive consumption.

how many miles before you add a quart? 500 miles or less is a problem, more than that isn't. how many miles between changes? better be 3k unless you're using synthetic. if all you are doing is adding oil when it's low, you are not changing the oil. there is still lotsa dirty oil to contaminate the fresh oil you put in, not to mention the oil in the filter. driving habits have alot to do with perceived consumption. lotsa short trips, then a long one will burn off stuff in the oil that's not oil, but water, excess fuel, etc. now the oil level on the stick is down and "now it's burning oil!" no, it's not. but, if you are short tripping the car, then the oil needs to changed at 3k, come hell or high water. a long trip will burn off the crap, an oil change lets it out the drain plug. an old man told me a long time ago-change it hot and change it alot. good luck, chuck.

A slight drip around the drain plug is usually because there are 2 washers instead of just one crush washer.
Please pull your flame trap apart and throw away the little plastic screen. All that screen manages to to is get clogged with oil.
Then, get a compression test.

Oil consumption is measure by miles driven not months. How many miles before its a quart down? On a higher mileage engine you could be burning a qt every 1000 or 1500 miles and this would not be unusual.
