Fuel Injector Problem? 850

Hi All:

Was going 75 mph in my old 94 850 and while climbing a hill, the engine got a shutter and now at idle sounds like a lawnmower sort of. Still runs but ruff, but at 3,000 rpm it seems fine... I will check fault codes for fuel injector failure, but does anyone know how easy fuel injectors are to replace...maybe some other problem?

thx...

Fuel Injector Problem? 850

Hi all:

Well the answer to the fuel injector question is that after 505,000 miles, the #4 piston rings cracked and I lost all compression in the cylinder. Amazing that the car does not smoke and still runs, but kinda ruff. Still smooth on the highway. Time for a new car. Great dealing with all of you all these years.....Even if you change your oil religiously every 3,000 miles, your car still has a date with the junkyard sometime I guess.

Man, you got taken on that car. I can't believe it didn't go another 200,000 miles. Were you still under warranty? (:

Sorry to hear that - happens to every car eventually. In this economy, you can probably pick up another Volvo for cheap...

Agreed - and I would rule out a dirty fuel filter or some dirt in the tank interfering with fuel pickup. The fuel flow needs to be faster when taking a hill so a flow problem might be worse then.

Fuel injectors and lawn mower sounds, not exactly what one would expect from a bad injector. Lawn mower sounds are usually what the average customer refers to when they have an exhaust leak. Is your car a turbo? The injectors are not too tough to do on that car. There are special tools required to do it by the book, they are a set of clamps that hold all of the injectors into the fuel rail while you lever the whole assembly out of the manifold. It is fairly easy to do it without them, just be careful and keep all of the injectors in the fuel rail. You can try squirting a little bit of penetrating oil around the injectors where they go into the manifold, wiggle them back and forth a bit and it should come out fairly easy. Disconnecting the supply and return lines pretty much goes without saying.
