My New (to me) S60M has ECC, are these fairly reliable?

I've never owned a car with one of these systems and would like to know how reliable are they? (my cars all usually have the manual cables and levers to adjust temp and direct airflow)

Also, should I use the manual settings on it or the auto settings to prevent future failures (or does it make a difference?)?

    I leave my 01 V70 T5 in auto all the time. I only adjust the temp. On really hot days the AC is too cool at first so I turn it up some. I've also learned to control the fan speed with the temp gage such as in the above case. I also leave my AC switch set to on. If it isn't needed I don't think it is running, but to be truthful, I don't really care and have never checked. The only other adjustment is when I turn it to defrost mode.
