water resistance gone V70-XC70 2004

Hi All,

I have a 2004 V70, I don't think i have the water resistant glass. However, when I bought the car used from the dealer last year water beaded off beautifully from the windshield and the body. After 13 months of being outside this has warn off and I get streaking film on the glass now.

Is there a product that the dealership might have used to make the car water resistant when I bought it? If anyone knows what products/steps I should take to fix this please reply.

Thanks!

In order to keep the water beads forming on the paint, use wax! The accumulation of dirt and grime and/or automated carwashes will strip the nice finish right off the car. Wax your car before the clearcoat starts pealing off.

As to the windshield, clean it. You could buy a small bottle of RainX and treat the glass. But if you live in the snow/salt belt, I suggest leaving the RainX in the bottle during the winter months. Don't forget to clean the inside of the windshield and the other windows with a window cleaner. Windex will streak, use a cleaner designed for a car.

If you can't wash and wax your car yourself, have it detailed for around $100.

Klaus, that was an interesting comment about the rain-X in the winter. I'm from California, so we don't have "Winter" so to speak. What is it that you don't like about rain-X in the winter? I love the stuff when raining here in California!

The salt water spray on the windshield seem to react with the rainX, so that when the wipers are on a film is left behind which makes it near impossible to see at night with oncoming headlights. This "film" evaporates within 30 seconds of the wipers stopping, but when the wipers are on, blindness.

Probably not enough water to wash the residue off.
