Harsh jerk/bang at speed? V70-XC70 2004

I'm experiencing a power interuption, the jerk/bang, usually at the latter part of a long days drive and usually on hot days, ie. 80 degrees. The car jerks (frightening) then the instruments die and then the dash lights die sometimes not returning till you turn it off and start it up again. This is not consistant as sometimes it will jerk and just continue or the dash will die all by itself. I tried just using the geartronic as the tach bounces up a bit signaling a possible trans issue. This didn't help. Volvo did a computer update but that didn't change anything. I've even gotten the ABS warning, the check engine light, the you have no brakes, pull over safely, and the SRS-airbag message.

I'm curious if it's one of the sensors that tells the computer to shut down? If it is, which are the sensors that have that capability?

There are sensors that keep the engine from starting, but once running there are none to shut itself down.

Check the serpentine belt and see if it could be slipping. Verify that the AC compressor turns easily by turning the AC off when you feel the engine hesitate. If the S belt stops moving, the engine will stall because of the alternator.
