Rear wheels "getting stuck' on hubs. V70-XC70 2006

Okay, just finished the 22.5K mile service including brake check and tire rotation. When I went to pull the wheels off, they were stuck the the hubs due to oxidation between the alloy rims and the steel hub (galvanic reaction I assume).

I wound up brushing the rust off the hub and cleaning the oxidation off the rim. After that, I applied a very thin coat of bearing grease to the steel hub/face and reinstalled the rims.

Should this take care of the problem in the future, or is there another trick I should employ?

Thank you,

John Orrell

I do the same, except with antiseize instead of grease.... V70-XC70 2006

Basically the right idea -- I've done the same* for years (nay, decades).

    * the only difference is that I prefer to use anti-seize paste (the kind for bolt/nut threads) -- grease remains sticky and collects dust/dirt, while antiseize dries and doesn't collect as much crap (learned this over several years experience).

      Klaus,

Thanks for the reply! I really don't want to sit on my behind again and use my legs/feet in a child-like temper tantrum type motion to get the rims to break loose! What made that situation especially unbearable was that my wife came out to the garage and said: "Gee, now that looks professional!" I hate to admit it but I laughed and had to agree with her! But heck, it worked!

        LOL

Most of us just kick the bejesus out of the tire to get it to come loose.

The easiest way to do it is to loosen the lug nuts a half turn on the ground and drive about a foot and hit the brakes. Jack the car up and the wheel will come right off. Use never sieze before you put it back on.
