850 Bulb Failure Warning 850 1996

Blulb Failure Light is on at all times in Wife.gov 850 sedan.

If you have the lights on the warning is on, if you turn the lights off the warning goes off but comes on when you step on the brakes. All bulbs are working, I have checked the connection on all bulbs.

Is thier a bulb failure relay to replace? Where is it located?

Thanks,

Peter

    Okay -

I have replaced all bulbs in the brake light circut and the warning light still comes on when the brake is depressed. Where is the bulb failure relay on this vehicle?? I know where this relay was on a 240 but don't know on this 850. Any help on where this relay is located is appreciated

    Thanks,

    Peter

The relay is in the fuse holder in the engine compartment. It is the largest relay on the driver's side. A rectangle with the length going front to rear.

Thanks - I've pulled that relay, tried cleaning up all the connections - checked the fuse and put it back in, still the light is on. Any common ground issues I should be looking for? The relay seems sound - but I don't know if thier is a way to test it. Any further advise? This is a really nice feature I hate to loose.

        Thanks,

        Peter

I had a jeep once. Did that did the same thing. It turned out the center high brake light had two bulbs. One was burned out. It looked fine when brake was applied, but I got the warning light. Unknown if there are two on an 850 as mine has never burned out in 15 years.

Concentrate on the rear bulbs. Any replacement of bulbs, brake or running lights, must be paired with new bulbs on the other side. The light out system compares current flow through the bulbs and new bulbs generally allow more electrons to flow through than old bulbs.
Also clean the bulb holder of any corrosion you may find. Use a small wire bristle brush.

You might want to check the rear fog light switch, make sure it's not in the on position with bulb being burnt out. It happened to me once and drove me crazy till I figured it out.
