Heated Seats V70-XC70

The heated front seats of my 2000 v70 aren't working. They didn't work when we bought it Jan 08. With winter approaching I need to take a look at this. I've looked at the fuses but all are fine. The buttons also illuminate when pressed. What else do I need to look at?
Thanks,
JR

Heated Seats V70-XC70

Just wanted to close this episode out.... I bought a new relay from the dealer ($50). The parts guy was even nice enough to print out the page showing the relays's location under the console armrest. I pulled the console out and found nothing but a heavy weight about 2"h x 4"w x 3"d and encased in plastic w/a rubber top. What the heck is that for???
Anyway, still determined, I then pulled the drivers side lower dash panel and found the relay residing in relay block high up in the inner dash behind two wiring harness terminal blocks. The wife now has heated seats - just in time for winter!
Thanks for all the help with this!
JR

That heavy thing under the console is a harmonic balancer, it reduces vibration in the tunnel below. Interesting?

Glad to hear that the seats now work :)

If neither of the buttons light up, they are either burned out or the wires are unplugged under the console.
Remove the "coin" tray. Then reach under the switch to push it up and out. Check the connector, remove the little bulb and check it for continuity to see if it is burned out. Replacement bulbs can be bought at Radioshack, #9219 - Micro Lamp.

Heated Seats V70-XC70

Klaus,
I see what your talking about here and will have to visit Radio Shack for a bulb. The bigger issue is why my heated seats aren't working. I just partially removed the console. I say partially because there are two wiring connector plugs underneath the hand brake cover and I can't get the larger of the two to seperate. I'm looking for the heated seat control module....assuming there is one. There was a black box undernneath the two aforementioned connector plugs but since I can't get that connector to release I can't determine what the black box is. Any other ideas?
Thanks
JR

Heated Seats - Update V70-XC70

In my typical "cart before the horse fashion" I went out into the garage after posting and began looking deeper. First the little LED does not light up when the switches are pressed. Also, I looked at the wiring under both seats and found no broken wires, etc. Where is the control module for the heated seats? Any help will be greatly appreciated!
JR

There is no "control" module for the heated seats. Nothing under the console except for connectors.
There is a relay for the heated seats, but that seldom goes bad.

You can unplug the connector under the seat, and test if you have continuity (low Ohm value) through the thermostat and the actual heating element (your seat will be cold so the thermostat should be "closed"). The heating element can break/burn out (at least that was the case with the 850 model).

However, since both seats don't work, I suspect it's not the heating elements because it's unlikely both are broken, usually the driver's side goes (first) because it was dimensioned for skinny Euro behinds.
