start a wiki?

Hello folks,

I've been thinking about this forum a lot lately.

I loved the format of the 700/900 FAQ, but there is nothing comparable for the FWD/AWD models.

I've been thinking that it would make a lot of sense to start a wiki to house the information in these forums.

The forums are awesome and an invaluable resource for new and old world brick owners alike. But I can't help feeling like we're asking the same questions over and over and over. I've noticed KlausC esp continuously redirecting folks to other articles and forum threads that already discuss the issue at hand. He, and other frequent forum contributers are doing a great job at this, but it can't go on like this forever.

We need to centralize this information into a more 'encyclopedia'/FAQ format, and the forum is just not it. I've seen numerous calls on this forum for an FAQ for the 850/S/V70 FAQ. Perhaps S40/S60/S80/brethren are a separate issue, or perhaps they should be included.

I believe that we should start a wiki on one of the free wiki hosting services.
This would allow information to be presented in an article/reference/FAQ format.
It would allow anyone with information to contribute.
It would allow anyone with better information to correct it.
It would allow a history of the evolution of the advice presented, as well as 'talk' discussion pages for how best to format the article.
It would supplement/compliment rather than replace this forum (like the 700/900 FAQ).
It would however allow us to start extracting good information from the forum threads out into a more easily acceptable format.

I can help in setting up and organizing a wiki, but I'm not the guy to get content moved there. I am willing to help with what I can, but I would need help from the guys that keep this forum running, to assist in making this work the way it should, and be as successful as I know it can be.

Please respond if you're interested at all, one way or the other (for or opposed).

start a wiki?

A great idea, but that would mean taking readers to another site.

Jarrod is extremely busy at work, he does have a day job, and with his children at home. We really need to press him to create an 850/s/v/70 FAQ as well as a P2 FAQ for the newer cars. The problem is finding persons dedicated enough to update and fact check submissions to the site.

Fortunately, the Brickboard has the best search engine around. So people should be using the search from the AWD/FWD index page before posting to keep down some of the repetitive questions.

Coolant Tank Replacement 900

The cooling systems on these cars run under very high pressures. I think it's 21 or 24 psi. The highest I've ever seen on a car. That, plus high heat, cold, many drive cycles take there toll on the plastics like the upper radiator neck and the overflow tank & cap.

New users not searching for stuff

I'm from the rwd region of this board, but I read your post, Klaus, and I agree that the search engine here is excellent. Lately I haven't made many new posts because most of the time I can find almost exactly what I'm looking for by searching the archives. It's a problem on all message boards, people don't bother searching. I have to admit, that I have been guilty of it too. But I'm getting better :)
