P0442 (evaporative emission system leak detected /small leak) problem on V40 S40-V40

Hello all,

The check engine light has come up on our 2003 v40. after hooking up the obdII checker it reads

P0442 (evaporative emission system leak detected /small leak). The car has less than 25,000 miles on it.

Any advice on what to look for as the main sources of this type of problem would be greatly appreciated.

best regards and thank you in advance to all.

Carl

Kmart has gas caps S40-V40

I just happened to be in Kmart and found lockable gas caps for under $10. I already purchased one from the $ealer. The Kmart version did not come with a hanging strap for those models that currently have such a device.

Mine turned out to be a gas cap. To check it, smear a small amount of Vasoline on the gascap seal and make sure your hear a few clicks when closing.

BTW, mine had gone away for a month and came back today after I tanked up :(

I'm no expert, but could this could be as simple as a loose gas cap? I'd suggest you check that and reset the code to see if it clears. Good Luck!
