Back ground: 01 V70 T5 with 89,500 miles. 3 hour road trip from Bay area to Reno Nevada.
1st indication: Cruise control goes off. At the time we were descending the mountain from Donner pass, and had coasted up to about 85MPH (cruise was set at 65MPH). Initially thought because of the excess over speed, it had tripped, but even after slowing down, it would not reset.
2nd indication: Could feel the engine miss a few beats every 5 minutes or so.
3rd indication: Substantial Power loss as we approached a hill.
As we approached our destination and transitioned off the freeway to city streets, the car continued the above indications, but continued to run. We parked and had a 3 hour meeting with our supplier. I hoped the cooling off might reset something, and off we’d go!
Upon restarting the car I checked if the cruise control would turn on. IT WOULD NOT. As we pulled out of the parking lot, and went about 50 yards to make a U-turn, the car stalled. It immediately restarted, but would only run about 4 seconds. During the 4 second run time, it would both idle or rev up, but would immediately shut off after about 4 seconds, but would always restart, and shut down, no matter how many times I’d try it. Answer below: Don’t peak, Ha Ha!!!
ANSWER: The air tube from the high pressure side of the turbo had disconnected at the front of the engine near the radiator where it transitions to a rubber hose to the intercooler. I had disconnected this interface when I had moved the plastic tube to gain access to the cover over the spark plugs about a week before. Apparently while I had remade the connection, I had forgotten to tighten the hose clamp, and the hoses had disconnected! A lesson learned that hopefully I can pass to fellow forum members! So who can explain why the cruise control would not turn on? The power lose is obvious, but wouldn’t the car keep running on non-boost, and essentially revert to a Non-Turbo engine? Hope you enjoy learning from my experience. Any other members care to share too?
