Gear shift selector works hard V70-XC70 2001

My wife owns a 2001 V70 T5 that we bought 3 years ago. The car has been well cared for and properly maintained. Currently the car has approx 90,000 miles and has been running very well.

Recently, without warning, the gear shift selector started working very hard and when you pull the lever down from P to D, it wants to slide to the left to try to engage the manual part of selector.

Has anyone had this problem with a V70 and if so, what did you do or what was the fix based on your experience?

Thanks very much. Fred.

Check both, your engine mount on the driver's side and the tranny mount. Sounds like one of them came undone causing the linkage to bind up.

Klaus, thanks for your response and your suggestions. I have these mounts checked out and all are ok. Now the transmission while in drive will easily move left toward the manual shift mode of the gear selector. A slick little touch of the gearshift to the left will now engage manual.
Do you have any other ideas or suggestions based on this new symptom?
      Thanks, Fred.
