Still Having Problems With Control Panel Warning Lights S70 1999

I took the car last Wednesday to the garage and they replaced the sensor that controls the speedometer and odometer and reset the check engine light and everything was fine....until it rained again and then all of the other lights came back on and off again. It took 2 more days of dry weather and then they went off again..but it is supposed to rain again tonight so I am sure they will go back on again and the speedometer and odometer off again. This is driving me NUTS! The warning lots are a pain, but not having a speedometer is just to risky since I have a long commute every day. In light of what has happened does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks!

Two items:

Check the carpet up under the brake, gas pedal for wetness after it rains. You might have a leak into the electrics.

After the car is turned on and the lights are all on and yelling at you, jiggle the key in the switch without turning the engine off. If the lights then go off, you will need a new electrical portion of the ignition switch. Easy fix.

I checked under the mat and it was not wet. It rained again and I didn't have the problem...well...not right away anyway. A couple of days passed and I was driving to work when the abs and brake lights lit up and within about 5 seconds the speedometer and odometer went off...then the other lights went off after about 5 minutes of driving and then within seconds the speedometer and odometer came back on as well...the check engine light is no longer coming on. That sequence happened four times in the course of a half an hour's ride. When I turn the car on the lights no longer go on, it seems it is very sporadic now.

?????????????????????????????????????????

You need a new ABS control module. Look at this site, Victor is really good:

http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha/

That will solve your ABS/TRKS lights and your speedometer cutting out. The speedo signal goes through the ABS module.

Now, your headlights no longer work?

The link would be great to have it serviced rather than to have a new one put in, the problem for me is that this is my only vehicle I have to drive to and from work and my mechanic told me that it would not be drivable without that part...is that true?

The only problem with driving the car without the ABS module is the lack of a speedometer. Obviously, the ABS system will not work, but that is only needed to keep the brakes from locking up.
If you drive to work every day, just don't go blasting down the road! It is only a 3 or 4 day trial, so easy does it and keep up with the traffic and all will be well.

No, the headlights work, I meant the warning lights. They were off for three days and then today they came back on again. Before it seemed to coincide with moisture, but now there is just no pattern at all.

As Klaus says, you will need either to replace the ABS control module or ship yours to Victor Rocha and have it repaired. The speedo signal is the average of the reading from the 4 wheel speed sensors which are conected to the ABS system, and the engine control and trans control modules rely on roadspeed info for coorect ignition timing/fuel injection and shifting, that is why the check engine liight comes on at times
