Tires V70-XC70 2003

Hi out there , looking for some advise and past experience.
I have a 2003 XC70 and I am ready to purchase tires. I live in the Toronto Can GTA.area. So we get little snow.
The Pirelli Scoppion tires that came with the car have given me good service. 64,000 miles =106,000 kilometers. But are getting a little hard and slippery , in the wet and snow.

I have been looking at the Goodyear triple tread and the Michelin similar design. The Pirelli's are available as well at a lower price that the others.

Advise on how these might work , or recommendations from the Form for this AWD vehicle?
I want comfort, and safety first, performance and long life to a lesser degree.

Thanks John

I can't say what I'm running on my '02 XC look great or have a name, but they were reasonably priced and after running them over 10K kms in the last 4 weeks (trip to NS to look for a house and back) I have to say I'm really impressed. They are GT Radial MaxTours made by GiTi of China (yeah, I know). They ride smooth, grip well in the dry and do well in the wet except for wet braking (OK but not the shortest distances I've ever seen). Have a treadwear number of 620 and they do look like they may last longer than I will want them to.

These things were recommended by my indie here in North Bay and he gets his tires from a supplier in the GTA, I'm not sure of the name. Anyway, if you are looking for smooth ride, reasonable price and performance; these things might be worth a try. BTW, I use Gislaveds in the winter and they are actually on the car more than these things will be (at least until I move back to NS).

Cheers,

Bill

I use www.tirerack.com to get really good ratings. Chose a tire size, etc. Then when a tire(s) is displayed, click on "survey resluts for any one of the tires. On the next screen select "compare this tire to other hp tires" and study the chart. The chart has been great for me.
