A/C Quick connect tool use, between drier and evaporator 850

Greetings:

I was curious if you might be able to help my figure out how to use the quick connect tool used on fuel and ac lines, namely between the drier and evaporator?

I'm trying to remove the drier.

Thanks,
Christian

Although it may seem like magic there really is no trick to it. Place the correct sized tool on the line so that the lip will slide into it and push the retaining spring back out of the way and the lines can be seperated. It can be a real bear sometimes to get it apart but just keep at it and you will get it eventually.

The tool is not real intuitive. You need to clamp the tool around pipe connection with the shoulder that is molded inside of the tool aimed at the joint. If everything is real clean and there is no corrosion it is simply a matter of pressing the shoulder of the tool into the joint. You will feel the spring being displaced when it releases.

If you have a fair amount of corrosion (typical) a shot of PB Blaster will help.

I also found that rotating the drier back and forth while pulling it off will help. You only need to keep the tool in place for about the first 1/8" or so as you remove the accumulator.

I've inserted the tool around the line and into the coupling as far as the tool can insert; at the same time I'm using a vice grip to try and wiggle the male end out. Does this seem right?

I'm not hearing a clicking noise - the drier end spins freely in the quick connect fitting.

NO! Remove the bracket that holds the Accumulator/Receiver/Drier and then remove the accumulator from the line, don't try to remove the line from the accumulator. The line extends into the accumulator for a couple of inches or more and it has O rings on it. It puts up a fair amount of resistance.

It helped me when I had my son hold the line while I worked the accumulator off.

Your next challenge will be getting the nut loose on the hose. I found that job best done by removing the lower splash guard and going after it from below the car.
