steering gear pinion gasket reneval, sub frame bolts and nuts? 850 1994

Hi, my 850 -94 with 225kkm has been leaking a bit at pinion for some time.
I finally decided to renew the pinion upper gasket (30 Euros) to make it to end. It was quite a job to remove and install but Bay13/power_steering.pdf was good help in doing this. So I have got all back again and not yet leaking.
Full steering gear renewal would have costed around 1000 Euros.

I remember reading somewhere that one should renew all bolts and nuts used for fixing the subframe again - is this really necessary? or at the end of tie rod?

I also flushed the transmission and went over to mobil atf shc with Magnefine in line filter (from mobil atf 220)after about 50k miles and must say the old oil looked really bad even not experiencing any malbehavior of the tranny yet.

Any bolt that gets "stretched", get from the dealer. I have had bolts from FCP and wouldn't use them on a soap box derby car. Get some red loctite also if you dont use OEM.

It is amazing to me to see the dark brown fluid when the dipstick shows more red than brown. Flushing the tranny really does work.

      Thanks Klaus,

I need to purchase new bolts and nuts for the subframe fix and tie rod ends just for peace of mind.

You have right, on the dip stick the old oil looked pretty ok and even redish but the drained oil looked horrible. I need do the flushing to my sedan as well. Certailnly worth the money - one can feel how smooth it is now.

You should not re-use any bolts that are torqued then stretched. e.g. head bolts, and sub-frame bolts.

I've read that bolts whose tightening specification is to tighten to a certain specified torque, then tighten additionally through an angle, such as 90 or 120 degrees more, should never be re-used. According to the info, these bolts stretch during the final tightening and can only once be tightened properly.
