Warning Lights S70

I drove my car this morning and everything was fine. We had a very bad band of thunderstorms move through about an hour later and now when I took it out my odometer is just a set of flat lines, the arrow that goes on if I use my winter package or shift it in to low or third gear is continually flashing, he check engine light is on, my abs light keeps going on and off as well as the brake light. It seems to be running fine, but could it be possible that the storm shorted something out? Is it safe to drive? It is a Saturday and so no one is open to look at it. Any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I took the car on Wednesday to the garage and they replaced the sensor that controls the speedometer and odometer and reset the check engine light and everything was fine....until it rained again and then all of the other lights came back on and off again. It took 2 more days of dry weather and then they went off again..but it is supposed to rain again tonight so I am sure they will go back on again. This is driving me NUTS! In light of what has happened does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks!

Thank you all who responded for your input. On top of all of the things I originally listed that went...tonight my speedometer didn't work for about the first 20 miles of a short trip I went on...then all of sudden it kicked on. Would that be related to all of the other things as well?

We didn't get the year of your car.

During the thunderstorm, dis you happen to drive through a lot of water. Not necessarilly deep, but more than an inch and at least 30mph? Having that much water spray up over the driver's side of the engine could have made the sensors wet and short out. That happened to my daughter, it took a few days to dry out.

No, my car was parked in my driveway and I did not take it out until a couple of hours after it was over and the lights came on even before I had a chance to drive it.

Because tomorrow is Sunday, disconnect the negative side of the battery for about an hour or so. You will need to have the correct radio code to restart the radio.
This will clear any error codes that are not current. And make sure the positive cable is tight when you put the negative cable back on.

If you have a voltmeter, check your battery voltage with the car turned off. Did you jump start the car lately? My 99 S70 dashboard lights up like a Christmas Tree when the battery voltage is too low - I left the truck open, and the light drained it down to less than 8 volts, after a jump start, the dashboard lights acted like you described until I charged the battery to normal outside of the car.

Hi Matt,

It was jump started about two weeks ago when it was in the body shop and they left the doors open for to long and it drained the battery. It have been fine since then. I do not have a meter to test it and there are no garages open around me. Should I let it run for a while to charge up the battery?

I have the same up arrow flashing w/ check engine light. The diagnosis for my car is one of three things. Bad shift solonoid for the trans, broken wire to the wire harness on the trans, or just some misc. electrical problem having to do with the trans. All of which sound bad, but they really aren't to bad. Solonoid is about $100. Also I do have the ABS light and the TRACS light come on periodically. That seems to be a fault in the ABS module. That just needs to be repaired. From what I know getting yours repaired is better than getting a new module. Here is a website of a guy that does the repair: home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha He is very reasonable and highly reccomended by other brick drivers.

Good luck!!
