Cruise Control - new to V Club V70-XC70

I just bought a 98 v70 and I'm lovin it. Big step up from my 93 dodge spirit.
Anyway just wondering if anyone had more info about the cruise control not working. I checked out the switch above brake light switch on the brake pedal and it seems fine. However, when you depress the brake the switch for the cruise moves out with the brake pedal rod all the way and stays in contact when the brake pedal is released also. Could this be a problem? Also I'm not sure which relays to swap to check if they are working. I have a blue one for the seatbelt alarm and a few others. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Working on getting a service manual. Thanks to all.

Sounds like you found the CC problem. To verify, pull off the vacuum line and attach another line to the switch so that you can test the switch. Just suck on the new line and see if it holds vacuum.
You can also find the vacuum line on the pump, which is under the battery tray in the engine compartment. I unhooked the vacuum line at the pump and sucked and watched the throttle move... no vacuum leak in my system. My problem turned out to be a throttle spring that needed some lube, it was too hard for the vacuum to move the throttle and respond quickly to hills and such.

When removing the switch above the brake pedal, depress the plastic tab that is hardest to do first, then the easy side. Otherwise you will break a tab off and render it useless.

Because the 1998 is a lot like the 850s, check this out for a pdf to copy to your PC:

I use my haynes manual for the 850s, it still applies.

    I still miss my 164 and my 854T. Just driving a V70R :)
