gas fume smell.. 850

I have had an 850 for 2 years now which did have a gas leak at the fuel pump, that was fixed.
Now if the car has a full tank, only a full to maybe 8/10 of a tank, I get a gas fume smell. I think I have narrowed it down to the fuel injectors. The guy who had this car before me liked to take stuff apart and attempted to do things he did not have the abulility to do.. after about 8/10 of a tank the fume smell will go away. sometimes it will be so bad you can smell it from the outside of the car.

I would think a leak around the injectors wouldn't really be dependent on how full the tank was. It would be there all the time tank full or not. There have been a few problems mentioned here regarding bad gas tank caps. I think the early years have some sort of venting valve for the vapor recovery system in the engine compartment. That could be the problem if you have a '93 or '94.

If you smell gas at the fuel rail, then it is probably at the top of the injectors. The seals will need to be replaced. OR, the fuel pressure regulator is going bad and the vacuum line has sprung a leak.
