P0455 850 1997

Hi all.

Last week I got a check engine with a P0455 Code. The large Evap System leak.

I pulled the battery out to check the canister under the tray, all seems fine. No vacuum lines disconnected anywhere.

I put the battery back in, and no light. Its been 6 days since I put it back in and nothing. But I dont think its over yet.

Here's the dilema: I can't fill my fuel tank all the way to full. The fuel seems to come up the pipe and stop the nossle. The gauge also seems to fluxate quite a bit. It will show 12 gals one minute and 6 the next, then back to 12.Im pretty sure this means theres a leak in the system.

The car was like that when we bought it a year ago, but never thought anything of it. I also think this is attributing to my poor gas mileage ( 19 city 25 higway)

So here's the question: Where do I look now? Fuel tank for broken Lines? Could it be the sender unit?

It could be the sender unit. But, first I would check the vent line that goes from the tank up to the top of the filler tube. They have been known to crack in the 850. Also check the gasket on your gas cap, it may be getting hard and cracked.
