You are talking Centegrade and 92-95C is hot enough. Get an OEM one, because they always fail in the open position. Aftermarket ones tend to fail closed and overheating always happens then.
You can always drive without one, but your gas mileage will go down a bit while the engine is cooler than expected by the ECU.

The 2 screws that hold down the housing are a T40, give them a shot of penetrating oil about 1 hour before you start. Some suggest that you buy 2 new bolts, just in case you strip the head on one. Make sure you empty about a quart of antifreeze before you start unscrewing things. Antifreeze on your alternator will kill it.
