AWD V70-XC70 1998

I have 98 V70R awd and i was reading it some where and it said the awd system shuts off around 20-30 mph is that true and if yes why

Close, but no cigars. The electronic traction control shuts off at 25mph, not the mechanical AWD system which is always working. TRKS allows the automatic braking for the front wheels to prevent wheel spin on FWD cars. As you have probably noted, the AWD will not allow the front wheels to spin anyway.

On pure ice, the TRKS system will probably work as designed. Hopefully, you will not be driving faster than 25mph on glare ice anytime soon.
