01 S80 blew engine after Dealer ECM update 2.9L S80 2001

Ok, I'm having a bad week, my S80 blew up, there is a hole in the engine case, maybe a thrown rod, but regardless, a new engine is needed(if you have one let me know). About 200 miles ago I had the ECM update done(Service Campaign 155) next thing I know I'm eatin white smoke(not the good kind) and parked on the side of I-74, with my black S80 looking great, but dead as Summer roadkill.

Question 1. Has anyone else heard of negative effect to the ECM update, maybe I just have bad luck, but the car lasted 107K with no problems, until the dealer touched it.

Question 2. If you know where I can buy a used engine cheap let me know, yes I've checked car-part but nothing under $1200.

Question 3. My car also has electrical problems, the gages go out, door locks, windows, etc. go out randomly, anyone else have this issue? any ideas? I'm guessing the electrical box under the dash, with all the relays and such, but I'm not too sure.

Question 4. Would you like to buy an S80 with a blown engine? $4700firm.

any help would be great, email me at taco3@indystart.com

My heart goes out to you, twice. Once for loosing an engine, the other thinking there is value in a 2001 S80.

I doubt the ECU upgrade caused a rod to break a hole in the block. I can only assume you were not doing 130mph up hill into the 30mph headwind with the turbo at full boost :-) After 200 miles, the dealer is off the hook for that one.
You probably got one that had a weak connecting rod, caused by a previous owner who let his engine over heat, then poured a bunch of oil and antifreeze into it.

Let the car go... and buy another Volvo. Just stay away from the 1999-2001 gremlin filled S80s.

Check with Erievovo.com for a good used 2.9 engine

107K? Maybe the timing belt/pulley failed. Sorry for your bad luck. I have a '99 and it hasn't given me trouble for the last 8K or so (the longest it's gone without a problem!). I've seen lots of S80 parts on ebay, including whole engines. Scrap yards and independents all over the country sell car parts on ebay, but be very careful in choosing the seller and keep an eye out for any red flags. Good luck.
