Trailer hitch purchase & installation V70-XC70 1998

1998 V70- FWD.....gonna be pulling a light weight pop-up camper and I need to install a trailer hitch soon....has anyone "been there, done that!" lately and can offer me some advice and counsel as to what brand/type is optimal, other than the $440 Volvo unit the dealer offers!!
In calling around I am told that it is a simple "bolt-on" application of 4 bolts- is this really true??

And how about wiring this unit for the brakes/directionals/back-up??

Any other issues of concern I should be aware of??

Thanks a lot- Sully!!!

I did the IPD one and very easy installation.

But I would recommend going to a U-Haul type place for wiring. Especially if you are over 2000 lbs and need a trailer brake controller. You might check them for install too. About the same thing as IPD and I bet cheaper.

Hey- questions for Lilitchpin???? V70-XC70 1998

So I got that IPD unit you suggested...where did you mount the wiring "pod"
on your wagon?
And no in-line fuse came with it, so what amp fuse link did you use??
Is the 1998 V70 a 2 or 3 wire system, as asked in the directions???

THnaks
Mikey

My 94 wagon had a floor panel to the right as you look at it that lifted up. I just left enough wire (wrapped up in duct tape, use # 84) to have the plug hang out the back when needed. Didn't want to get into mounting externally for something seldom used.

The V70 is a 5 wire system. IPD sells the drawtite electrics: http://www.ipdusa.com/version.asp?strPageHistory=search&numSearchStartRecord=1&P_ID=1425&CAT_ID=0&V_ID=2953

Normal installation is in the left, driver side, tail light housing. The black "box" contains a fuse, IIRC. Or you could always install a 15 amp fuse on the battery line yourself.

Get a plastic cover for the reciever hole, mine always got sand or dirt in it when the hitch was not being used and cleaning it out is a bear.
