I have a new 2008 XC70 with the 6 speed auto/shift-tronic. When moving away from a stop, with the selector in D, it starts up in 1st which is so low as to be impractical and a waste of gas. If I use the shift-tronic mode and start up in 2nd it is smooth and doesn't jump off the line. Can the CPU be programed to start up in 2nd when the selector is in D and still have 1st available in shift-tronic mode if needed? Maybe the shift point from 1st to 2nd can be programed to be almost at once, like 1000 rpm or less.

Is there no computer geek who also drives an XC out there?? When I was on the Brickboard with my 240 the mere mention of some obscure problem brought suggestions galore. I'll try again.

There are a lot of programmers out here, but very few that can modify a TCU. The Mercedes does as you want, with 1st only if you give it a lot of gas at launch.
You need to find someone in Sweden who has access to the software and knowledge to apply it to the TCU chip.
Besides, very few of us have an 08. We buy older Volvos because they are cheap.

Klaus: Thank you so much for responding. I was beginning to feel invisible. I understand about not much info on the 08. We had a transportation melt down in our family and my trusty '92 240 had to go to my daughter. Volvo had a great lease deal on the XC 08 that was the same as leasing or buying on 04 so I took it. I wonder if the Volvo cpu is a shared item with the mercedes. I shall look into it.
