A week ago I started my xc70 and the engine was very hesitant. It was struggling under 1000 rpm and bouncing between 400 and 800 about. The engine was completely unresponsive to the throttle and the check engine light came on. I restarted it after a minute and all was fine. I went to my local AutoZone and rented their computer tester. Plugged it in as instructed with the key in the "on" position and no error codes were returned. In addition, the MIL status was OFF. The manual for the code reader said that if a temporary problem occurred it could take a few dozen warm-up cycles for the light to actually turn off. So I gave back the code checker and yesterday the engine did it again. Do I need a special code checker to work with a Volvo? Also, this all started when it got REALLY hot here. Like 100F plus outside (and even in my garage, ugh). Any tips would be much appreciated.
