removing check engine light bulb 850 1996

While cross breeding my "96" 850 to run with an engine from "98" I eliminated my EGR system, now I am experiencing a check engine light and the code reads 413
( EGR temp sensor signal incorrect or missing,in my case missing)the code doesn't bother me,the car runs great.the check engine light bugs the crap out of me,can I eliminate the bulb as long as I remember to check my codes periodically? Will any mechanical or electrical problems occur as a direct result of removing the bulb?I do not live in an area that requires vehicle inspections, although I am thinking about sticking a CO meter up its pipe just to make sure I'm not polluting. Thanks for any help.

Most of the codes that trigger the CEL are emmissions related. You should know when a disaster is happening in the engine compartment. Go ahead and remove the bulb, but check your codes every time you change the oil - like I do.

I wouldn't do it. A flashing C/E light means you are damaging your cat with unburned fuel. (ie a misfire). You do not want to drive your car in that state.

I think the egr can be fixed by adding a relay to force the input to match the output status. If the egr valve is open the pressure switch input needs to be present. I THINK that will keep the C/E light off.

I'd work towards preventing a false signal rather than eliminating the light.

That would be the ideal fix,I think I'll ponder the for a while. Thanks
