electric cooling fan switch? 850 1996

My cooling fan only comes on when AC is on,I would expect that there is a thermo switch somewhere?any tips on where to look or suggestions on what typically causes fan failure would be appreciated. Thanks

The only "switch" is the engine coolant temp sensor which also drives the gauge in the dash. If you suspect the coolant to be hotter than normal and no fan is engaged, then it could be the fan relay. The relay is located above the radiator (nice hot location for relays) and should be checked.
Try a search on engine fan relay.
