Is this 850 wagon worth the price? 850

If you good folks could lend me your opinions & insights, I would appreciate the help.

I just scrutinized a red 95 860 GLT wagon, leather, SIPS, sunroof, 160000 miles.
The mechanic & I found these problems -

Needs timing belt & tensioner, right front CV & axle, rear main seal leaks slowly, AC compressor noisy & pulley is red from heat, drivers seat back won't adjust, rear wiper makes a knocking sound, leather in front is cracked & some small tears, tailgate shocks are shot. And Check Engine light stays on, mechanic didn't see the cause (I've read the codes, but haven''t gone any farther).

Otherwise, it runs great & looks pretty good. Engine sounds perfect, shifts properly, no rust, etc. Odometer quit several years ago, but I know the milage is in the computer. AC works great, all power accessories work. Previous owner, 2d owner, lives here & appears to have been careful in caring for the car since he bought it in 2000.

Asking price (from used car lot) is $2000. I could do the timing belt, wiper & tailgate work myself but the other stuff will have to go to the mechanic.

So ... what do you think it's worth as I've described it? Or should I keep looking? In this part of the country, south Georgia, Volvos are very scarce. My first choice would be a late 940 or 960 wagon.

Thanks.

Is this 850 wagon worth the price? - NO, skip it 850

It does sound from your description like the previous owner maintained it. You may end up spending a LOT of money to get this thing in safe running condition. Skip it.

Well, you think it may be worth the $$ to buy this automobile. But, I'd continue to look for another car as it seems that this one has several issues. The ac could cost over 1200.00 and the seat will need replacement to work. I sold an 96 850 glt wagon with yes....43,000 original miles and it was in great shape. I get to see it often as my neighbor bought it and now a year and half later it has about 60,000 miles. Keep looking you will find one....

A 200K junker is worth about $500. It was not maintained by the previous owner, as you suggest. The rear main seal will cost at least $750 + another $200 to fix the oil breather system. It probably needs new check valves for the cannister, and the driver's seat needs to be replaced.
    Forget it.
