Removing the cat??? V70-XC70 2000

It's time to replace the catalytic converter in my V70 XC. To save a little $$$ I decided to try and have it rebuilt of buying one from the dealer. I know I can go aftermarket but I have been advised against it.

What I'm wondering is how do I remove the catalyic converter? I took a quick look at it and didn't see the typical exhaust clamps. Is it welded in place such that I need to go to a muffler shop to have it cut out?

Please advise,

Thanks,

RGW

    Removing the cat??? V70-XC70 2000

Before you replace the CAT, has it really failed? If you ever get a multiple misfire code, it will also trigger a CAT code, which is just a warning. You didn't say how many miles you have or other codes. It could be that you are running rich because of another problem and getting a new cat will just spend your money.
The cat, if I remember correctly, is part of the down pipe and needs to be cut/welded. You should also get new front and rear O2 sensors at the same time.

Check for vacuum leaks first, along with fuel pressure checks and AMM/MAF readings. Let us know what your problems/symptoms are.
