I have what I hope is a simple question...When changing the Transmission fluid on a 98 S70, automatic trans with the winter package, is there any particular type that has to be used, or can I use what's available at the local autoparts store?

I use walmart tran fluid for $7 a gallon. I use 3 gallons each 30K. It is a little darker when I change it, but not dark brown like when I first got my used S70! it has served me well for 240K so far.

You could use Dexron/Mercron (SP) but I would strongly suggest you flush with Mobile 1 synthetic ATF. Your tranny will love you for the upgrade. A lot more expensive but it will not break down after 25K miles.
