Cylinder Head Replaced-It Runs!!! 850 1996

To all the regulars out there-particularly you KlausC. With regard to my 95 855 Turbo. I know that you guys have seen some of my questions about my blown head gasket and warped head over the past few months, and I thought you deserved an update. I finally spent the whole weekend getting it methodically back together and "It's Alive'!!! After being laid up in my garage for several months-mostly due to my procrastination,it feels good to have the 855 Turbo running and RUNNING GREAT I might add. I have forgotten how FAST this car runs! I also took this opportunity to replace the front engine mount which in hindsight has been thunking for like the past 200,000 miles. I had a dealer check out the mounts several years ago and they said it was fine. Therefore I assumed it couldn't be a bad mount-Not So... No more thunking now. The car now has 293,000 miles and she feels like she'll go for the 500,000 mile landmark. Surprisingly, with the head off, I could still see the crosshatch marks in all five cylinders-Mobil One Synthetic must work!

Well, the next project is my Son's '95 854 for the oil pump o-rings replacement. Thanks for all of your advice. I probably could have done it, but it would have been a lot more difficult...

Thanks,
LarryU

Did you use the special head replacement tools?

I religiously followed the procedure as outlined in my Haynes Manual. I made my own camshaft holding/locating tool as shown in the manual along with the camshaft cover pulldown tool-also shown in the manual, when reassembling. in hindsight, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. it's just all of the mental anguish preparing for the job. My next one, I would feel a lot more confident...

    Well, it's about time :)

It is nice to have it running, isn't it? Thanks for the note, we appreciate it.

Congratulations. That is a nasty difficult job, I did mine last year. I am so glad I did not scrap the car. As soon as I got the head off and looked inside the bores I knew the engine was worth saving.

And don't be too sure about the synthetic. My engine was used and abused with the cheapest oil i could find. And it was like new inside also. A good engine just needs oil.
