Power Steering Rack replacement S70 1998

Anyone knows the site with detailed steps for replacement of the steering rack (s70, 1998 not turbo). I read somewhere that I need to slightly lift the engine. Is this duable in the garage not equiped with the special lift and supports for the engine?
Thanks in advance.

I put an FCP Groton rebuilt in using a Haynes or Chilton manual for guidance. There are some bolts you need to get from the dealer beforehand that bolt the sub-frame to the frame and aren't supposed to be re-used. I used a floor jack and a bottle jack, and it helped having a pneumatic impact wrench. I also needed a set of metric crow's feet wrenches (used with a ratchet) to get at the hydraulic connections at the rack. It's crowded down there and a bit tricky getting the rack out once everything's disconnected, so be sure to remember how you do it so you know how to get the new one back in.

Try searching the archives here if you haven't already. The topic has been covered but perhaps not with a procedure. Worth a look to survey the collective knowledge/experiences.

I assume that it's the same job as a rack on an 850. I had a hand in changing a rack in an 850 a number of years ago. Did it in a gravel driveway, so you don't need a special lift to do the job. As you mentioned, you do need to lift the engine/transmision slightly. It's definitely a job where you need a pair of jackstands, at least one good floor jack, and the confidence that you know how to use them correctly.
