V70 fwd front end vibration V70-XC70 2001

I am having a front end vibration trouble with my V70. When my wife drives it to work (25 miles @ 75+ mph) when she leaves highway she gets a vibration at lower speeds, and the same on the way home. when i drive it (only short distances) i cant get it to do it. could it be heat related? tires? tires are 4 month old snows. The stealership found a bad tie rod end and did an alignment last week but something is still up. yesterday i jacked up the right side and there was play in the 3 to 9 oclock direction and a slight clunck that seemed to come from under the center of the car behind the engine. when i jack the left side there is no noise and less movement. i have also noticed that when turning full lock to the left and press the gas there is a clicking, axle shaft?? there is no noise to the right. if i need an axle should i replace both? can the axle shaft cause the vibration when heated up??? thanks, bobd

you guys were right, the night i posted this my wife was stranded on her way home with a broken right drive axle, we had it towed to our local volvo indy and it was fixed saturday afternoon. I thought that it seemed odd that it only made any noise was when turning full lock to the left and then gassing it a little otherwise no noise at all. Does anyone think it would be a good practice to replace the other axle at the same time as a precaution? I dont know the history of this car's maintenance as we just bought it last october with 126,000 miles to replace my 1998 V70 that I totaled. Thanks, BOBD

You are correct. Check the axle boots on the right side, both of them. Any cracking is suspect. The high speeds your wife drives at will warm the CV joints nicely. They could have leaked out.
Inspect first and replace later.

I just had a cv joint relpaced on my 2000 xc. Same symptoms as you, the clinking sound. I would look at that.
