Brake Job cost? 850 1995

Hey guys,

Quick question(s), I need a ballpark figure of a complete brake job for my 95 850. Also my front passenger caliper seems to be sticking. Could all that brake dust be the cause of that?

I've heard brakes on the 850 are pretty simple, but how hard is it to change the caliper?

Thank you

I found that drilled/slotted rotors tend to eat pads much faster. Why not go to FCPGroton and get OEM for the same price as the above?

Rebuilt Calipers are not that expensive. I paid around $90 for one but most of that was a core charge ($40) which I got back when I returned the old calipher. Sometime these fail due to lack of lubrication on the slider pins. If you have a shop do it, plan on much more.

Just did mine a few days ago. Not a really hard job. Just make sure the piston is pushed back in all the way. I found that the spring device is easiest to install after the caliper has been remounted.

All matters what you intent to do.

front Rotors about $60-70 pair (does the brakes pulsate when stopping need to change)

I use ceramic pads (no dust last twice as long as semi-metallic) around $60 for fronts. (they produce a lot of heat and will probably need to change rotors next time but I get around 60-70k on them which on volvo is great). Plus they never squeal.

I go with the cheap pads in the rear about $30 a pair.

Get a can of shim spray (forget the name) it provides a tacky surface for the shim and pad to stick together.

Use also caliper lube comes in a tube to grease up the caliper sliding pins. No need to remove from booty just make sure they are lubed up and caliber slides back and forth.

C-Clamp and small block of wood to recess piston on caliper. Make sure you open the brake reservoir in the engine compartment.

A brake job is typically just pad replacement, a complete brake job is pads and rotors, calipers are usually not considered to be within the scope of a complete brake job. Front pads and rotors on your car run about $400.00 with tax. If you had a seized or sticky caliper I would recommend a pair of them and a complete brake system flush for an additional $125.00 labor plus the cost of the calipers.

Best way to estimate is to go to fcpgroton and write down parts and prices. The job is not bad but the first time it always takes longer.
