rusty lug bolts V70-XC70 2004

Gang -

The lug bolts on my 2004 V70 are starting to get pretty rusty looking. They are not chrome - just silver paint I guess.

Has anyone used any individual lug 'covers' for these 19 mm bolts? I had a VW which used black plastic covers on the lugs and they looked pretty good and weren't too hard to get off when servicing. But I'm thinking that the VW had 17 mm lugs.

Yeah, I know this is a cosmetic girly problem but any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Bob

Volvo sells the covers as cheap or cheaper than some ebay prices.

The real chrome Volvo lugs will eventually rust, especially if you change your wheels each spring and fall as I do. Paint does not last too long either.

    rusty lug bolts - SOLUTION ! V70-XC70 2004

I received my (black) plastic lug bolt covers in the mail today. They look great (IMHO). I wish it were easier (or I was smarter) to post a before/after picture on this site. If anyone would like to see a picture then just email me and I'll send one along. (Of course I have to take one first.)

The "removal" tool is pretty flimsy and the covers fit pretty tight so I am planning to carry an old pair of pliers so facilitate roadside removal. I put a little white grease on the lugs so that the covers would come off a little easier. The supplied 'tool' is not strong enough to get them off.

My ebay price was $16.50 (including shipping). I've seen some for as low as $14.99 on ebay.

    Chrome is also available.

I found some good deals on ebay for lug bolt covers - in the $15 - $16.50 range with FREE shipping - so I sprang for them. Will let you know how it works out.

    Here is one ad:

but in case it's gone when you read this you can just search ebay for:

    volvo "lug bolt covers"

They are available in both black & chrome.

I had seen the exact same ones on the web for $20 + $10 shipping so the ebay "Buy It Now" prices are good.

Call around to your local auto stores. They may have chrome replacements that look good.

      Klaus -

When you said "chrome replacements" I'm not sure if you meant the entire lug bolt or just a cover.

I'm leaning towards covers since I like the idea of retaining genuine Volvo® bolts and the covers would be cheaper.

I found the following link for lug bolt covers:

      www.radusadirect.com/category/080_lug_bolt___lock_covers

I think the black ones would look good.

Here are some OEM's (that are not immune to rust by the way)on eBay (that's what I did) that would look the best, better than covers:

And here are the black covers for a lower price (you need a removal tool):

Don't go for Pep Boys type replacements because they're very flimsey

My 854 has "OEM" chrome lug bolts with those spiffy aluminum wheels. Look at FCPGroton or Eeuroparts.
