2000 V70 GLT QUESTIONS V70-XC70 2000

CAN ANYONE HELP ME OUT ON A FEW QUESTIONS FOR MY 2000 V70 GLT.

1. Do I have to use premium gas all the time?

2. About 1.5 years agon, I had the L and R front struts replaced and a right front strut upper mounting kit replaced. According to the repair guy, I need to replace both front strut upper mounting kit w/bearing kit. What would cause the upper mounting kit to need to be replaced again? I hate to replace them again if it's something else that's causing the problem. I called another repair place and they guy said I probably DON"T need the bearing kit to be placed with the upper mounting kit. Any thoughts on that?

3. Also, the 2nd repair guy said that he really doesn't like to change out the transmission fluid because it ends up usually causing more problems. But the 1st repair guy said that the trans. fluid is dark and should be replaced.

4. I would like to buy another V70 in the future, I hear the 2001 are not very good, but a 2003 - 2004 are a better choice. Any thoughts on that?

5. The check engine light is on. I replaced the catalytic converter hoping it would take care of that, but it didn't. I've been told it may be the O2 sensor. Now the car is much louder - is that due to a non-Volvo Catalytic converter? Anyway to make it quieter? IT almost sounds like there's a muffler/manifold problem, but I've been told that they're both okay.

Any feedback is much appreciated!

    2000 V70 GLT QUESTIONS V70-XC70 2000

    1. If you don't use wide open throttle a lot, 89 octane will work nicely.

    2. Upper mount kits do not need to be replaced on both sides. When the LF gets noisy, then you know what the problem is.

    3. Flush the tranny fluid. It is a 30 minute DIY. Just make sure the fluid matches what is in your owner's manual. A 5 speed auto needs Mobile 3309.

    4. The newer the better.

    5. Or it may just be a cracked vacuum line. If it is an O2 sensor, read the codes, then it is usually just the front sensor. A couple of vacuum elbows comming off the intake manifold get pretty abused with heat and start leaking.

5B. Yes, the generic cat will be louder, but not that much. You may want to check the clamp between the exhaust pipe and the converter. It normally takes 2 people to put the exhaust pipe on correctly, one to push them together and the other to tighten the clamp.
