Oil Pan Issue 850

Hi all,
I hit a rock yesterday and put a hole in my oil pan on my 1994 850 and have the following questions.
1. I have a spare pan. From what I'm hearing you need to lift the engine to do this.Is this correct?
2. The damage is a hole about 2 in. long that looks like it was hit with a axe. Has anyone repaired this in the car in anyway?
Thanks.
Joel

Oil Pan Issue 850

Actually I just removed my oil pan to replace the O'rings. I have a 1995 850 Turbo.
I didn't have to move the engine at all. I did however grind off the tab of soft metal that is welded to the subframe. It's near the belt/crankshaft pulley. The pan came right out.
I would definitely put the new o'rings in the sump while you're in there. I had a intermittant valve lifter noise, which is now cured.

The only trouble of the entire job, was trying to reattache the oil cooling lines at the engine side. That was VERY frustrating, but managable.

Good luck.
