strut caps S70 1998

I notice that there is about 1/4" gap between the strut caps and the strut mounts both sides on my glt w/130k miles. My 740 has no gap.
Should I try to tighten the cap? Besides visual and wiggle is there a better way to check suspension wear?

That gap is normal. If you try to tighten the large center nut and it goes around and around with little pressure (less than 50lbs), it is time to do some work on the struts.

You might want to take a flash light and bounce up and down on the front bumper while shinning it in where you see that gap and see if the upper spring seats are tearing away or not. Beyond that, yes, put a wrench on them and see if they can be tightened up any. A little bit of a gap there is entirely normal though, so do not be surprised if you find them to be tight in the first place.
