New 850 owner with 240 history 850

Volvo's great safety legacy instilled in the 240 series car has convinced another driver to purchase one of their great models, the 850 GLT. Last year I rolled my 87 240 DL 3 times @ 70+mph and me and my girlfriend walked away unharmed... 2 weeks later i was in a 92 240!
So now she has purchased a 93 850 GLT with all the whistles including sunroof and headlight wipers...
I own a Bentley Manual for the 240 but have yet to investigate if they make one for the 850....
So what book is every 850 owner prizing in their garage?

sounds like you need to slow down a lil bit. maybe you need a NON turbo, like me. ;-) i found a used chilton AND haynes at a used book sale right after i bought my Volvo. they seem pretty good and have loads of info but it is difficult to make a truly comprenhensive book that is useful to weekend warriors like me. and neither chilton or haynes tell me what the white nylon thingy in this pic is...

I have a Haynes for 850s. It's OK, but not enough for me.

Your case requires special attention. The 1993 was a unique year. The wheels only have 4 lug nuts, the timing belt is to be changed every 60K miles with a unique belt that varies with engine number. The suspension pieces are partly unique to that year.

It is a nice car, but be careful when you buy parts. The OBD I is OK, just like the 240/740. The tranny is fragile (auto), so make sure it is stopped when shifting into/out of reverse.

When asking for help from BB folks, make sure you specify 1993!

I once owned a '93 850. It had close to 114k miles when I wrecked it in a blizzard on my way back to school. At that time, the tranny (auto) was close to failing, as the arrow light on the dash kept blinking on and off for no reason at all. I also had problems with the door locks and instrument panel too. And most of all, I really hated the fact that the timing belt had to be changed very frequently.

But I'm happy with my current '96. Alas, I can't drive it now because it's in storage.
