rear wiper/washer repair. found a dried lake of blue in the spare well. 850

While checking my spare I noted the tire well was damp and had a blue "bathtub ring". My rear washer doesn't work but I think I may have found a clue to why it doesn’t. I found a plastic line that come from under the rear seat and connects to a filter/check valve/back flow preventer near the passenger side of the spare well (it looks like a filter, why does it need a filter?) and then the line/tube continues to the rear pillar. I assume this is the washer fluid line from the motor compartment and part of it is leaking. Id like to fix it and I’ve been searching the archive for about an hour or so and I don’t find it in my Chilton or Haynes manuals, so...

Do you know what the part I’m trying to describe and where can I find another... and maybe some pointers on getting the rear washer to work again?

thanks a bunch!
and apologies for the length of my question,
-cheers

Hi. On my 1997 AWD Estate,I had the same leak.
If you lift all of the wooden boards over the spare, and inspect the washer feed pipe on the right hand side, you will see that it pushes into a softer plastic joining sleeve; the fit of those two pipes is highly suspect!

I was lucky, all I had to do was push the two pipes firmly together and clamp them with a SMALL electrical cable tie (zip tie).
It worked for me.The odd thing was that it caused (the leak that is)a very strange pig farm sort of smell in the car and I rather think thats why the PO sold it.

Best regards, Howard. Isle Of Skye.

Take a look on the FCP Groton site for "Washer Reservoir In Line Filter". It sounds like what you describe. Both of My 850's are sedans so I must plead ignorance on the Wagon rear washer system.

I could look it up on VADIS for you but I see no way to post pictures on this site which would make it feudal.

Lee,
You could send him an email with an attachment. It is a oneway check valve.

i think i found the part! thanks a bunch!

now... the pump seems silent when i press the rear washer button so i think that part is kaput as well (and i found the pump/motor part too), the next puzzle is the leak. the tubing i see used for the washer fluid that is near the spare tire well looks like the semi-rigid vacuum tubing... any other common places to look for leaks?

thanks for the help.
