A couple of times my wife has called from the road that she had a flat. So I'd go out and change to the spare and she would limp home observing the 50mph max warning. I never did find a leak, so I changed the valve stem and have been okay since.

But I started wishing we had a full size spare. I found a matching rim on ebay, bought it, and mounted a decent tire on it. THEN I found that Volvo makes it almost impossible to put a full size spare under the rear deck. I removed the styrofoam ring that located the donut spare and a metal brace, but the 195/60/15 tire is still too wide. I'm afraid the only thing left to do is to remove every bit of the 3rd seat and its hardwear. I'm a little reluctant to do this even though the 3rd seat is nearly useless and we have never used it.

Does anyone have any experience or suggestions? TIA

    I`ve reacently mounted a third seatrow in my 98, in the instructions for this seat it clearly says that after mounting this seat a full size spare will not fit.

    I, too, thought about buying a spare alloy wheel and real tire. When my wife had new tires mounted on our 15-inch wheels, she asked the tire mechanic put one of the new full size tires in the spare well to see if it fits. She said it simply did not fit properly and bulged up. I did not see it and can't comment on exactly what part of the geometry was wrong.

    I have a full size spare in my wagon, but no third seat. And it just fits.

    Hello,
    I would live with the space saver spare for the little bit it gets used. The third seat hardware is not meant to be removed and therefore is likely to be bear and to begin dismantling it for a full size spare is IMO not time well spent.
    The third seat can be a resale benefit while a full size spare probably holds no allure.
