Check engine light and more 1999 v70 base V70-XC70

Hi, everyone.

My V70 hit a pothole, which cut the passenger side front tire and damaged the rim.

Besides need to get the rim repaired and a new tire, I have got the check engine on now. I am not sure how to connect the hitting pothole with the check engine light. It's raining when the incident happened and an air pump was connected to the cigerate light outlet when the car was started (check engine light on since then). Hope people here can give me some hints. It seems the car is running well (I feel something different; but assume it is because it is running on a donut.).

There's something very interesting happened recently. there were about 3 times in the past month that the headlights were staying on for a minute or so (after the key's off the ignition). I know some newer cars have that kind of feature; but it only happened to my v70 recently and I could not repeat it. Any hidden feature that I don't know?

Can someone let me know the rims from which years are exchangeable with my 1999 V70?

Looking forward to your inputs.

Thank you very much.

    All,

I was thinking to take my car to Autozone to pull out the check engine code. but when I turned on the car today, the check engine light wasn't staying on anymore. It's a relief for me. It seems it's a temporary choke. Any comments on this?
    Thanks.

Get the codes checked. Your wheel speed sensor could be at fault. That can cause you to throw a check engine code.

    You can get wheels repaired.

There were 3 different wheel sizes for your car, and an assortment of wheel styles. Find 2 newer wheels that match what you already have on your car, use the second one for a spare. Actually, the one that is on the left front should be relegated to spare duty. And do that soonest!

You may have broken more than the wheel, the front suspension will need to be checked by a mechanic and an alignment may be warrented.

Stop by the same mechanic to get your check engine codes, that will tell you what is wrong.

      Klaus/MGC,

Thank you both for your inputs. I am going to find a good mechanic to get my car checked for damages beyond the tire and rim.

I ordered a used rim from ebay last night. Just want to make sure. Are you saying I need to a rim for the left front also, or you meant to say I will need two new tires?

      Thanks,

      Paul

Depending on the wear on the other front tire. My suggestion was to get 2 rims and use the extra one to replace the dumb donut spare. Look around locally, there might be a craigslist.org in your town/city with no shipping charges.

          Thanks, Klaus,

It's a good idea. I will keep an eye on looking for an extra rim. The tires on the front of my V70 are pretty new (about 15k miles on them and were just rotated to the front).

          Best,
          Paul

Paul, do post the final outcome so that we can learn from your suffering:)

I bought a spare wheel for my V70 from here:

            http://www.erievovo.com/

It was pretty nice for a fair price. I also bought some wheels for my 940 throught the classifieds on this site.
